The 2018 year has been a turning point for ASTRI with the appointment of a dedicated management team and the signing of our new funding agreement with The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). Following a successful mid-term review, ARENA has contracted the lead agency CSIRO for a continuation of the program until 31 August 2021 with the possibility of an extension subject to program review and approval. ASTRI has also committed to a collaboration with the National Renewable Energy Laboratories and Sandia Laboratories in the US as part of the $USD 72m Gen 3 program. ASTRI’s involvement in this program will help cement our reputation as a significant player in Concentrated Solar Thermal research as well as de-risking our domestic program which focus on an alternative technology namely; molten sodium as a heat transfer and storage medium. ASTRI has recently delivered its strategic plan for the remainder of the program which leverages heavily the outcomes of ARENA’s CST roadmap and commits the ASTRI partners to proving an integrated sodium system in collaboration with industry and international partners.
