2018/19 has been a turning point for ASTRI with the appointment of a dedicated management team and the signing of our new funding agreement with The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). Following a successful mid-term review, ARENA has contracted the lead agency CSIRO for a continuation of the program until 31 August 2021 with the possibility of an extension subject to program review and approval. ASTRI has also commenced a collaboration with the National Renewable Energy Laboratories and Sandia Laboratories in the US as part of the $USD 72m Gen 3 program. ASTRI’s involvement in this program will help cement our reputation as a significant player in the international Concentrated Solar Thermal research community as well as de-risking our domestic program which focus on an alternative technology namely liquid sodium as a heat transfer fluid and different types of thermal energy storage media including phase-change materials. ASTRI has recently delivered its strategic plan for the remainder of the program which leverages heavily the outcomes of ARENA’s CSP roadmap and commits the ASTRI partners to proving a number of integrated high-temperature CSP system components in collaboration with industry and international partners.
