ASTRI recently released it’s 2019 Public Dissemination report (download view) which highlights the growing interest in Concentrated Solar thermal Power (CSP) globally and nationally as a viable form of dispatchable, renewable energy generation. As the need for efficient energy storage is becoming increasingly apparent CSP is ideally positioned to complement existing PV and battery systems with capacities between 4 – 12 hours. This makes it an attractive option for energy system operators seeking to guarantee reliability and system security. The report also highlighted the role that CSP can play in providing a reliable and low-cost supply of renewable-energy storage and electricity for remote mining and community locations, reducing their reliance on diesel generation. In addition, the integration of Concentrated Solar Thermal (CST) into process heat applications offers an opportunity for industry to transition from the use of natural gas.
The report was welcomed by industry stakeholders and offers an insight into the state-of-the-art systems under development in the ASTRI partnership.
